President Murmu Addresses AIIMS New Delhi Convocation

New Delhi: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced the convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi today, acknowledging the institute’s remarkable contributions to healthcare, medical education, and life sciences research.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Murmu lauded AIIMS New Delhi as an institution of global prestige, embodying excellence in patient care and medical advancements. She emphasized that AIIMS serves as a beacon of hope for millions, providing quality healthcare with dedication and empathy to both the privileged and underprivileged alike. “It could be said that AIIMS is a running laboratory of the Gita’s Karma Yoga,” she remarked, highlighting the selfless service of its faculty, paramedics, and non-medical staff.

The President underscored AIIMS’s pivotal role in national and global healthcare, calling it a Made-in-India success story and a model institution for medical excellence. Over 69 years of its existence, AIIMS has built a reputation based on unwavering commitment to values, continuous innovation in research, and compassionate patient care. She also commended AIIMS’s initiatives in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability through good governance, emphasizing that such principles are essential for the institution’s sustained growth and impact.

Addressing the issue of emotional and mental health, President Murmu highlighted the growing challenge of mental well-being in today’s world. She urged AIIMS faculty to take proactive steps in raising awareness on mental health issues, stressing that no loss in life is greater than the loss of life itself. She called for AIIMS to launch a nationwide awareness campaign to combat the stigma around mental health and encourage early intervention.

Speaking directly to the graduating students, President Murmu encouraged them to use their education to build fulfilling careers while remaining committed to service. She urged them never to ignore opportunities to assist the underprivileged, especially in regions facing a shortage of medical professionals. Expressing confidence in their dedication, she encouraged them to consider serving rural communities, even for a part of the year. She also reminded them to prioritize their own physical and mental health, ensuring they remain resilient in their noble profession.
