Siachen: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, visited the Siachen Base Camp today, paying her heartfelt tributes at the Siachen War Memorial, a symbol of the immense sacrifices made by soldiers since the launch of Operation Meghdoot on the Siachen Glacier on April 13, 1984. The operation marked the beginning of India’s enduring presence in the world’s highest battlefield, where countless soldiers have laid down their lives in defense of the nation.
During her visit, President Murmu addressed the soldiers posted in the region, expressing deep pride and admiration for their unwavering dedication. She noted that, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, she felt an immense sense of pride in their service and assured them that the entire nation salutes their courage and commitment.
President Murmu highlighted the extraordinary resilience of the Indian Armed Forces, stating that since the initiation of Operation Meghdoot, the brave soldiers and officers have ensured the security of this critical region, despite facing some of the harshest conditions on the planet. “In the face of extreme weather, including heavy snowfall and temperatures plummeting to minus 50 degrees Celsius, they remain steadfast at their posts, displaying remarkable devotion and vigilance,” she remarked.
She commended the soldiers for their exceptional sacrifices and tolerance, emphasizing that all Indians deeply respect and recognize their bravery. “The nation is aware of your sacrifice and unparalleled courage. We hold you in the highest esteem,” the President said, reflecting the nation’s gratitude towards the guardians of its northern frontier.
