President Droupadi Murmu Honors Indian Navy on Navy Day at Puri Beach

Puri: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the Navy Day celebrations at Puri Beach on December 4, 2024, where she witnessed a dynamic Operational Demonstration by the Indian Navy. The event paid tribute to the valiant service of naval personnel and highlighted India’s maritime heritage and future aspirations.

In her address, President Murmu extended heartfelt greetings to all naval personnel, marking the day as a commemoration of India’s 1971 war victory and the sacrifices made by the Navy in defending the nation. “India salutes the Indian Navy for serving the nation with honor and courage,” she stated, emphasizing the nation’s gratitude for their selfless service.

The President reflected on India’s rich maritime history, noting the country’s geographical advantages, including a long coastline, island territories, and an enduring seafaring tradition. These attributes, she said, have defined India as a maritime nation for over 5,000 years. Looking forward, she expressed confidence that the Indian Navy would continue to play a pivotal role in ensuring maritime security, vital to achieving the vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.

Highlighting the Navy’s strides in gender inclusivity, President Murmu commended its efforts in promoting Nari Shakti. She lauded the Navy for being the first among the armed forces to induct women Agniveers and celebrated the achievements of Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa. These officers, currently on a global circumnavigation mission aboard INSV Tarini as part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II, embody the progressive spirit of the Navy, she remarked.

The Navy Day celebrations underscored the Indian Navy’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests, embracing inclusivity, and honoring its legacy while charting a path toward a promising future.
