President Droupadi Murmu Commends ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute’s Role in Advancing Food Security

New Delhi: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced and addressed the 62nd convocation of the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi today, recognizing the institute’s remarkable contribution to achieving food security in the country.

In her address, President Murmu praised IARI for not only conducting efficient research and development in agriculture but also ensuring that the outcomes of their work directly benefit the farming community. She acknowledged the institute’s role in developing more than 200 new technologies, with over 100 varieties and more than 100 patents in its name between 2005 and 2020.

Highlighting the significance of agriculture in India, President Murmu emphasized that a large portion of the population relies on agriculture for their livelihood, and the sector significantly contributes to India’s GDP. Ensuring the growth of this economic foundation is crucial, and she expressed satisfaction that the government is actively working to increase farmers’ income, promote innovative agricultural methods, and establish efficient irrigation systems.

The President applauded the government’s efforts in significantly enhancing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, providing income security to farmers. She stressed the importance of addressing challenges faced by farmers, acknowledging that many continue to live in poverty. President Murmu urged a collective and urgent effort to ensure fair prices for agricultural produce, enabling farmers to transition from a life of poverty to prosperity.

Expressing confidence in the future, President Murmu envisioned Indian farmers as pioneers in the nation’s journey towards development. She stated that by the year 2047, when India emerges as a developed nation, the hardworking farmers of the country will play a pivotal role in this transformative journey.

The President’s address underlines the crucial role of research institutions like IARI in shaping the future of agriculture, ensuring food security, and uplifting the lives of farmers across the nation.
