New Delhi : President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi expressed profound grief over the demise of the renowned actor Sadhu Meher, who left an indelible mark on both Odia and Hindi cinema.
In a post on X, President Draupadi Murmu conveyed her condolences, expressing, “The demise of Sadhu Meher is a huge loss for the world of cinema. Remembered for his contribution to meaningful cinema, Sadhu Meher essayed memorable and complex characters on screen through his powerful performances. I convey my condolences to his admirers, friends, and members of his family.”
Similarly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X, stating, “The demise of Shri Sadhu Meher Ji is a profound loss for the world of films and our cultural heritage. A stalwart in both Hindi and Odia cinema, his cinematic performances and dedication were exemplary. My thoughts are with his family, colleagues, and many fans mourning this irreplaceable loss. In his memory, we cherish the rich artistic heritage he leaves behind. Om Shanti.”
Padma Shri awardee and veteran Odia actor Sadhu Meher passed away in Mumbai on Friday. He had a significant impact on the Odia and Hindi film industries over several decades. Commencing his film journey in Hindi movies, he later made his mark in Odia cinema. Notable films in his career include “Ankur,” “Mrugaya,” “Bhuban Shome,” and “Manthan.”
Sadhu Meher’s first film, “Bhuvan Shome,” directed by Mrinal Sen in 1969, marked the beginning of a illustrious career. His stellar performance in “Ankur” earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1974. The prolific actor also directed films such as “Abhiman.” In 2017, Sadhu Meher was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award for his significant contributions to the world of cinema.
