Bhubaneswar: Former Chief Secretary of Odisha, Pradeep Kumar Jena, officially assumed charge as the Chairman of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) on Tuesday, following a formal swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.
Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oath of office in the presence of senior OERC officials and other dignitaries. Jena’s appointment comes after the Odisha Energy Department issued an official notification on March 28, 2025, confirming his selection to the post.
The position of OERC Chairman had been vacant since the retirement of the previous Chairman, Suresh Mohapatra. Jena’s appointment is expected to bring renewed leadership to the regulatory body overseeing the state’s power sector.
A 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Pradeep Kumar Jena served in various key roles throughout his career. He held the post of Chief Secretary of Odisha from February 26, 2023, until his retirement on June 30, 2024. Known for his administrative acumen and reform-oriented leadership, Jena is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding Odisha’s power regulation and ensuring efficiency and transparency in the sector.
