PM Modi Launches ‘Karmayogi Saptah’ to Strengthen Civil Service Learning and Capacity Building

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the ‘Karmayogi Saptah’ – a National Learning Week dedicated to enhancing the skills and knowledge of civil servants across the country. The event, held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, is part of the broader Mission Karmayogi initiative aimed at building a future-ready civil service workforce to drive India’s development.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of creating human resources that will propel India’s progress, stating, “Through Mission Karmayogi, our goal is to develop a workforce that is the driving force behind the country’s development.” He expressed satisfaction with the strides made under the mission and conveyed optimism that with continued dedication, India’s path to becoming a developed nation by 2047, as envisioned in Viksit Bharat, will be realized.

Mission Karmayogi, launched in September 2020, focuses on creating a globally competitive civil service deeply rooted in Indian values. The mission provides civil servants with opportunities for continuous learning, equipping them with new tools and technologies to meet the evolving demands of governance. The ‘Karmayogi Saptah’ is a key component of this mission, reinforcing individual and organizational development.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted how the mindset of the government has transformed over the last decade, with Mission Karmayogi playing a pivotal role in this shift. He remarked on the mission’s impact in enhancing the effectiveness of government employees, ultimately benefiting the public.

During his speech, the Prime Minister addressed the growing role of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI). He described AI as both a challenge and an opportunity for India, coining the term “two AIs” to represent both Artificial Intelligence and Aspirational India. “If we can leverage AI to empower Aspirational India, it could bring about transformative change,” he said.

Modi also spoke about how the digital revolution and social media have contributed to greater information equality, making it easier for citizens to stay informed and hold the government accountable. Civil servants, he emphasized, must stay current with technological advancements to meet rising standards.

The Prime Minister urged civil servants to adopt a citizen-centric approach and called for more innovation in governance. He encouraged government departments to seek input from startups, research agencies, and young innovators to introduce fresh ideas into public service. Modi also emphasized the importance of feedback mechanisms and stressed that civil services training institutions must work together, break down silos, and adopt global best practices.

Highlighting the success of the Integrated Government Online Training (iGOT) platform, the Prime Minister noted that over 40 lakh government employees have registered for more than 1,400 courses, with 1.5 crore certificates already issued. This platform is a crucial tool under Mission Karmayogi, fostering lifelong learning and helping government employees stay updated with the latest skills and knowledge.

Prime Minister Modi called for greater collaboration among training institutions to promote a “whole-of-government” approach. He urged civil service training centers to establish communication channels, exchange knowledge, and align their efforts with national objectives.

The National Learning Week is expected to further strengthen the capacity of civil servants, aligning them with the goals of Mission Karmayogi and India’s broader aspirations for progress. Through these initiatives, the government hopes to cultivate a civil service that is not only effective but also capable of delivering citizen-centric solutions while contributing to India’s growth and global standing.
