PM Modi Hails Maiden Maritime Event ‘Sagarmanthan: The Ocean’s Dialogue’ as a Milestone for Global Collaboration

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a message from his camp office in Nigeria, lauded the successful organization of the inaugural maritime thought leadership forum, Sagarmanthan: The Ocean’s Dialogue, held in the national capital. Highlighting the significance of maritime collaboration, he emphasized the event’s potential to build partnerships for a prosperous future of humanity.

“Our vision for a free, open, and secure maritime network—be it the Indian Ocean or the Indo-Pacific region—is resonating across the globe. The ‘Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative’ underscores marine resources as a key pillar for national and global growth,” PM Modi stated. He noted that Sagarmanthan would contribute to strengthening the rules-based world order while fostering peace, trust, and international friendships.

He further underscored the importance of such dialogues in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, adding, “With the collective efforts of all stakeholders, I am confident these discussions will resonate far and wide, paving the way toward a brighter, more connected future.”

PM Modi highlighted India’s rich maritime heritage, citing historic port cities like Lothal and Dholavira, the naval prowess of the Chola dynasty, and the maritime strategies of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as enduring inspirations.

Recognizing oceans as a shared global resource and the lifeline of international trade, he said, “The security and prosperity of nations are intricately linked to oceans.” He outlined India’s strides in maritime development, emphasizing transformative initiatives under the vision of ‘Ports of Prosperity,’ ‘Ports for Progress,’ and ‘Ports for Productivity.’ Over the past decade, India has doubled port capacity, enhanced efficiency, reduced turnaround times, and strengthened last-mile connectivity via expressways, railways, and riverine networks, significantly transforming the nation’s shoreline.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, expressed gratitude for PM Modi’s support and insight. Calling Modi’s leadership a driving force behind the maritime sector’s transformation, Sonowal said, “The Prime Minister’s message encapsulates the very essence of Sagarmanthan, offering a framework for collaboration to achieve a Viksit Bharat.”

Sonowal extended appreciation to the organizers and stakeholders whose tireless efforts contributed to the success of Sagarmanthan. He praised the forum as a visionary platform for global maritime thought leadership, fostering dialogue and innovation for sustainable development.

Sagarmanthan has emerged as a key initiative to discuss pressing issues, share best practices, and foster international cooperation in the maritime sector. With the event’s success, India reaffirms its leadership in championing maritime security, economic progress, and ecological sustainability on the global stage.
