
New Delhi: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Foreign Ministers from the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) member states paid a joint call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The meeting marked a pivotal moment in strengthening regional cooperation across various sectors.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Modi engaged in fruitful conversations with the group of Ministers, focusing on enhancing regional collaboration in diverse areas such as connectivity, energy, trade, health, agriculture, science, security, and people-to-people exchanges. He emphasized BIMSTEC’s vital role as an engine for economic and social growth within the region.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to fostering a peaceful, prosperous, resilient, and secure BIMSTEC region. He highlighted BIMSTEC’s importance in India’s Neighbourhood First and Look East policies, as well as in its SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.
“BIMSTEC is crucial for regional development and plays a significant role in driving economic and social growth. India stands firmly committed to ensuring a peaceful and prosperous BIMSTEC region,” Prime Minister Modi stated during the discussions.
In addition to reiterating India’s support for regional cooperation, Prime Minister Modi expressed full support for Thailand as it prepares to host the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit in September. This gesture underscores India’s dedication to strengthening regional ties and ensuring the success of future collaborative efforts.
