
Bhubaneswar: Para athlete Kamal Kant Nayak created a world record of covering maximum distance in a manual wheelchair on Sunday. He covered 213 km in 24 hours in a wheelchair.
He broke the earlier record of 182.4 kms by Mario Trinidad from Portugal.
For the super marathon, Kamal kant covered the to and fro distance from Rajmahal to Master Canteen which is approximately 1.14 km.
He covered 43 kms in 4 hours, 89 kms in 9 hours, 118 kms in 12 hours, 165 kms in 18 hours and 183 kms in 20 hours.
For achieving the target, the Sports and Youth Services Department felicitated him with a sum of Rs 1 lakh in the premises of Kalinga Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Sports department R. Vineel Krishna appreciated Kamal Kant for his dedication and hard work.
The department will provide all necessary assistance to help him participate in the Paralympics, informed the Secretary.
