Padma Shri Awardee Nanda Prusty Passed Away

Bhubaneswar: Popularly known as Nanda Master, Padma Shri awardee Nanda Prusty passed away today. 

He was struggling with cough and fever since last month. He tested Covid positive and on November 4 he was shifted to SUM hospital in Bhubaneswar from Kalinga Nagar Tata Medical Covid Hospital, Jajpur.

He was honoured with the Padma Shri by President Ram Nath Kovind on November 9 for his contribution to the field of education. Keeping the Chatashali tradition alive, he spent decades imparting free education to children in Kantira village.

Condolences poured in for Nanda Master.

President Ram Nath Kovind condoled his demise. He tweeted, “Sad to learn about the demise of Shri Nanda Prusty. ‘Nanda sir’ spread joy of education with dedication. His gesture of blessing me when I conferred him with Padma Shri last month will remain etched in my memory. May his rich legacy endure! Condolences to his family & admirers.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of the Padma Shri awardee. He tweeted, “Pained by the demise of Shri Nanda Prusty Ji. The much respected “Nanda Sir” will be remembered for generations due to his efforts to spread the joys of education in Odisha. He drew the nation’s attention and affection a few weeks ago at the Padma Awards ceremony. Om Shanti.”
