
Bhubaneswar: Strengthening prospects for mango farmers, a special skill development workshop on scientific cultivation and export-oriented practices was organised by the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society at the SIRD campus in Bhubaneswar.
The programme brought together farmers and agriculture officials from 15 major mango-producing districts, focusing on improving productivity and enabling better market access. The training sessions emphasised safe harvesting techniques and strategies to maximise profits through export opportunities.
Participants were introduced to scientific methods of harvesting and efficient post-harvest management to reduce losses and maintain fruit quality. Experts highlighted the importance of grading, packaging, and cold chain management, along with strengthening market linkages to expand the reach of Odisha’s mangoes in international markets.
Additional CEO (Finance) of ORMAS, Sanjiv Kumar Singh, said the initiative would equip farmers with the necessary knowledge to access global markets and improve returns. Additional CEO (Administration) Gitanjali Behera stressed that proper handling and storage practices would help prevent premature spoilage and enhance farmers’ income.
