Opposition MPs’ Suspension Withdrawn for Upcoming Parliament’s Budget Session

New Delhi: Fourteen opposition Members of Parliament (MPs), who faced suspension in the previous session, are set to return for the upcoming Parliament’s Budget session. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi confirmed that the Chairs in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have agreed to the government’s request to revoke their suspension.

The suspension of these 14 MPs had been referred to the respective privilege committees, following recommendations by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha committees. The committees had suggested withdrawing the suspension after the MPs expressed regret for their conduct during the Winter session, where their protests led to disruptions in parliamentary proceedings.

While a total of 146 opposition MPs faced suspension for disruptive behavior, these 14 were considered to have committed more serious transgressions. The suspension of 132 MPs for the remainder of the Winter session had been collectively imposed by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Joshi stated, “Everybody’s suspension will be withdrawn. We have requested the Speaker and the Chairperson on behalf of the government, and they have agreed.” He emphasized the need for MPs to refrain from bringing placards or similar materials into the chambers during the session to avoid any further action by the Chairs.
