OPGC Emerges Top State Sector Power Generator in India, Secures National Rankings

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (OPGC) has achieved a significant milestone in the power sector by securing the top position among all state-sector power generating companies in India, reflecting its strong operational performance and efficiency in electricity generation.

According to performance rankings up to May 2026, OPGC has been placed first among state-sector power generators across the country. It has also secured the 10th position among all power generation companies in India, including both public and private sector entities, and ranked sixth among large power stations with installed capacities exceeding 1,000 MW.

The achievement highlights OPGC’s consistent operational excellence, high reliability standards and efficient management of its power generation facilities. The corporation’s strong performance is reflected in its Plant Load Factor (PLF), a key indicator of power plant efficiency and capacity utilization.

OPGC attributed the success to the support and guidance of the State Government, particularly the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The corporation stated that the government’s focus on strengthening Odisha’s energy security and promoting self-reliance in the power sector has provided renewed momentum to its growth and performance.

Officials said the rankings underscore OPGC’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted and efficient power generation through effective plant management, optimum maintenance practices and the dedicated efforts of its operational teams.

As Odisha’s energy demand continues to grow, OPGC remains a key contributor to the state’s power supply network. The corporation’s latest achievement further reinforces its position as one of the leading power producers in the country and reflects its role in supporting the state’s industrial and economic development.
