Odisha’s Urban Bodies Put on High Alert Ahead of Anticipated Heavy Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: With forecasts indicating heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha, the Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department has issued a statewide alert to all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), urging them to step up preparedness and take immediate precautionary measures.

Principal Secretary Smt. Usha Padhee has directed ULBs to remain vigilant and proactive in mitigating the risks associated with waterlogging and urban flooding. As part of the preparedness plan, ULBs have been instructed to pre-position dewatering pumps in vulnerable zones and ensure that control rooms function 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

“All Urban Local Bodies must stay vigilant. Our focus should be on prompt action and citizen safety,” said Padhee, while stressing the need for continuous communication with the Department.

Rapid response teams have been mobilized across cities and towns to tackle emergency situations arising from potential inundation. Coordination with line departments, deployment of emergency manpower, and operational readiness of essential machinery have also been identified as key components of the response strategy.

The Department has reiterated its commitment to work in close coordination with local authorities to manage urban areas effectively during the impending weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the H&UD Department is closely monitoring developments and has urged the public to remain cautious. Citizens have been advised to stay informed and comply with advisories issued by local administrations to ensure their safety.
