Odisha’s NIPUN Week Concludes with Enthusiastic Participation Across Schools

Bhubaneswar: The state-wide “NIPUN Week” program, organized by the School & Mass Education Department, concluded on a high note, drawing enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and parents across government schools in Odisha. The final day saw schools transform into vibrant hubs of learning, with activities designed to deepen engagement and build awareness around the importance of foundational literacy and numeracy.

Special sessions were held for mothers, focusing on how parents can play an active role in their children’s early learning journey. Storytelling, reading promotion activities, and interactive guidance enabled parents to understand how to support learning at home. Students’ report cards were also showcased as part of the program.

The week-long initiative was structured to balance numeracy and literacy. The first two days highlighted foundational numeracy, where children participated in math games, puzzles, and story-based activity cards. The following two days shifted focus to literacy skills, with students practicing decoding, reading, and writing through stories, songs, games, and innovative teaching-learning materials.

According to teachers, play-based methods helped students grasp mathematical concepts like counting, addition, and subtraction with ease, while storytelling and word games strengthened language, comprehension, and confidence. The program has already begun fostering greater attentiveness and enthusiasm for learning among students.

Launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on September 5, 2024, the NIPUN Odisha Mission seeks to ensure that every child between the ages of 3 and 8 acquires foundational skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic at the primary level. NIPUN Week represents a creative extension of this mission, aimed at making education more inclusive, participatory, and community-driven.
