Odisha’s Madhu Babu Pension Yojana to Include 4 Lakh More Beneficiaries

Bhubaneswar: Responding to the persistent demands from various districts, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sanctioned the inclusion of an additional four lakh beneficiaries under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana. This move raises the total number of beneficiaries from 32.75 lakh to 36.75 lakh, demonstrating the government’s commitment to extending social security nets across a wider spectrum of the population.

The State Government will allocate Rs 190.20 crore per month for this expanded initiative, reflecting its dedication to uplifting marginalized sections of society. Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had previously incorporated an extra 4.13 lakh individuals into this scheme in August 2023.

The Madhu Babu Pension Yojana encompasses a diverse range of beneficiaries, including senior citizens, widows, differently-abled individuals, unmarried women, recovered leprosy and AIDS patients, divorced women, transgender individuals, and COVID orphans. Under this scheme, individuals from children to 79 years of age receive Rs 500 per month, while those aged 80 and above receive Rs 700 per month. Disabled persons with 40 to 59 percent disability receive Rs 500 per month, escalating to Rs 700 for those with 60 percent or more disability. Additionally, individuals above 80 years with over 60 percent disability are entitled to Rs 900 per month. This comprehensive approach ensures inclusive social welfare for vulnerable sections of the population.
