Odisha’s Culinary Heritage to Take Center Stage on Celebrity MasterChef India

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s rich and diverse culinary heritage is set to captivate national audiences as Celebrity MasterChef India showcases the state’s iconic dishes for the first time. Odisha’s time-honored delicacies, including the beloved Pakhala platter and the sacred temple cuisine, will be reimagined on the prestigious culinary platform, bringing the essence of Odia food traditions into the limelight.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, aims to establish the state as a premier culinary destination in India. By highlighting Odisha’s unique ingredients, traditional cooking techniques, and deep-rooted food culture, the participation in Celebrity MasterChef India aligns with Odisha’s vision to promote its gastronomic identity on a national scale.

As part of the show’s Odisha Cuisine Challenge, celebrity chefs will reinvent two of the state’s most iconic culinary traditions—the Odisha Pakhala Platter and the Odisha Prasad Culture.

In the Odisha Pakhala Platter segment, chefs will present different variations of the state’s signature fermented rice dish, including Dahi Pakhala, Chunka Pakhala, and Ghia Pakhala, complemented by classic side dishes such as Chingudi Chechha, Kakharu Phula Bhaja, Badi Chura, and Machha Bhaja. This challenge will test their ability to retain authenticity while giving Pakhala a modern presentation.

The Odisha Prasad Culture challenge will draw inspiration from the sacred Mahaprasad of Jagannath Temple, requiring chefs to recreate temple offerings like Kanika, Dalma, Ambula Khata, Mohura, and Kheera Gaentha. Chefs will adhere to the sattvic principles of temple cuisine, focusing on simplicity and spiritual essence while elevating the dishes to fine-dining standards.

The announcement of Odisha’s participation in Celebrity MasterChef India has generated significant buzz on social media, with food enthusiasts, chefs, and culture aficionados rallying behind the campaign. The hashtag #OdishaInCelebrityMasterChef has gained momentum, with people sharing their love for Odia cuisine through personal recipes, memories, and food stories.

The Department of Tourism has been actively engaging audiences through digital campaigns, encouraging them to explore Odisha’s culinary traditions. As excitement builds, netizens and home cooks are invited to join the conversation with #MyOdiaKitchenTales, sharing their own versions of traditional dishes, cooking techniques, and nostalgic food stories. Selected stories will be featured by Odisha Tourism, celebrating the people behind the cuisine and their deep-rooted connection to Odia flavors.

The initiative is expected to bolster Odisha’s culinary tourism by drawing food lovers and travelers eager to experience its authentic flavors. With a focus on heritage cuisine, traditional cooking techniques, and locally sourced ingredients, the campaign aims to inspire restaurants and hotels to incorporate Odia dishes into their menus, further enhancing the state’s gastronomic appeal.

Commissioner cum Secretary, Department of Tourism, Balwant Singh, expressed pride in Odisha’s participation in Celebrity MasterChef India. “Odisha’s culinary traditions have long been an unsung treasure. Through this platform, we are not only showcasing our food but also the rituals, history, and cultural significance behind every dish. This is a proud moment for every Odia, and we invite the world to savor and celebrate the taste of Odisha,” he stated.

Food enthusiasts across the country can tune in to Celebrity MasterChef India from March 26th to 28th to witness Odisha’s timeless recipes meet modern culinary artistry.
