Odisha Women Lifters Shine with Eight More Medals at Khelo India Women’s Weightlifting League

Berhampur: The women weightlifters of Odisha continued their remarkable medal streak on the third day of the Asmita Khelo India Women’s Weightlifting National Zonal League 2024-25, held at the Ganjam Weightlifting Academy in Mahatma Gandhi Stadium. The host state secured eight more medals, including three gold, two silver, and three bronze, bringing their total tally to 14 medals—seven gold, four silver, and three bronze.

Among the standout performers was Mina Santa-B, who claimed a gold medal in the 59kg youth category and a bronze in the junior category. Her performance was highlighted by a combined lift of 157kg, consisting of 70kg in the snatch and 87kg in the clean and jerk.

Bidusmita Bhoi and Rima Bhoi added to Odisha’s gold haul with stellar performances in the 59kg junior and senior categories, respectively. Bidusmita achieved a total lift of 189kg, with 84kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk. Rima outdid her peers with a combined lift of 192kg, which included 82kg in the snatch and 110kg in the clean and jerk.

The 64kg category saw Odisha adding four more medals to their tally, albeit without securing a gold. Tikimohini Mallik earned two silver medals in the youth and junior categories with a total lift of 156kg, comprising 71kg in the snatch and 85kg in the clean and jerk. Romali Pradhan clinched a bronze medal in the youth category with a total lift of 145kg, including 63kg in the snatch and 82kg in the clean and jerk. Aparajita Bhuyan rounded off the medal haul with a bronze in the senior category, achieving a combined lift of 172kg, with 76kg in the snatch and 96kg in the clean and jerk.

The host state’s continued success in the league reflects the strength of its training programs and the dedication of its athletes. With eight more medals secured today, Odisha’s dominance in the competition remains unchallenged, positioning the state as a powerhouse in women’s weightlifting.
