Odisha to Set Up Nine New Medical Colleges Across State: Health Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has announced plans to establish nine new medical institutions across the state, confirmed Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling.

Addressing reporters, Dr. Mahaling said that the new facilities will include four MBBS colleges, four dental colleges, and one Ayurvedic college. “We have decided to establish four MBBS colleges in Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur districts; four dental colleges in Burla, Berhampur, Bolangir, and Keonjhar; and an Ayurvedic college in Mayurbhanj district,” he said.

The Minister also announced that two more medical colleges—in Phulbani (Kandhamal district) and Talcher (Angul district)—will begin operations from the current academic year, each offering 100 MBBS seats. These institutions are expected to significantly enhance access to medical education, especially in underserved regions.

Dr. Mahaling expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for their support and timely approval of these initiatives. “These new institutions will go a long way in addressing the shortage of doctors and specialists in the state and improve healthcare delivery in both urban and rural areas,” he noted.
