Odisha to See Light Rain from April 2 After Intense Heatwave

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to experience light rain and thundershowers starting April 2, bringing temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), sporadic rainfall is expected in parts of southern and coastal Odisha over the next few days, though temperatures will largely remain unchanged.

The first showers are likely to occur in Koraput and Malkangiri on April 2. By April 3, rainfall may extend to Rayagada, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi, followed by Gajapati on April 4. The IMD predicts light showers in Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam on April 5, with similar conditions persisting for the following days.

Despite the forecasted rain, day and night temperatures across the state will see no major drop, the IMD clarified. Odisha has been reeling under extreme heat, with Jharsuguda recording a scorching 43°C on March 29 and Sambalpur registering 42°C on March 30, making it the hottest place in the state. Bhubaneswar also saw temperatures cross 40°C as dry and warm northerly winds intensified heatwave conditions.
