Odisha to Host National Energy Ministers’ Conclave in Collaboration with Tony Blair Institute and IIT Kanpur

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to host the Energy Ministers’ Conclave later this year, bringing together energy leaders from across India to chart the course for a sustainable and climate-resilient future. The high-level conclave will be organised in collaboration with the Tony Blair Institute and IIT Kanpur, positioning Odisha at the forefront of national energy transition dialogue.

A preparatory meeting for the upcoming event was held in Bhubaneswar under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. During the meeting, officials reviewed the planning process for the conclave, which is expected to showcase innovative energy initiatives and policy frameworks being adopted across the country, with a special focus on Odisha’s achievements.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was earlier signed in New Delhi last month between the Government of Odisha and the Tony Blair Institute to formalize the partnership.

Deputy Chief Minister Singhdeo emphasised that under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the foundation of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047 is being laid, and the energy sector will play a pivotal role in realizing this goal. “Odisha is taking a proactive role in developing an effective policy framework for energy transition. We are actively preparing a climate-resilient strategy, targeting net-zero carbon emissions and accelerating the shift from traditional to renewable energy sources,” he said.

Highlighting Odisha’s energy transformation roadmap, Singhdeo noted the state’s commitment to adopting solar power, Pumped Storage Projects (PSP), and other green energy solutions. He added that support from the Tony Blair Institute would be instrumental in building strategic capacity and policy innovation.

The Energy Ministers’ Conclave is expected to draw the participation of prominent energy experts, policymakers, and innovators from India and abroad. It will also serve as a platform to showcase Odisha’s pioneering efforts in clean energy and infrastructure development.

Among those present in the meeting were Principal Secretary of the Energy Department Vishal Kumar Dev, Tony Blair Institute Director Vivek Agarwal, N. Sagar, Amar Jyoti Mohapatra, GRIDCO Managing Director Trilochan Panda, and Additional Secretary Saidutta Biplab Keshari.
