Odisha to Establish Landmark Science City in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major stride toward promoting scientific innovation and fostering a culture of curiosity and research, the Odisha government has unveiled plans to develop a world-class Science City in Bhubaneswar. The project is seen as a vital component of the state’s long-term development strategy under the Viksit Odisha 2036 vision.

The announcement was made by Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, who emphasized the government’s commitment to advancing science education and public engagement. “Scientific progress is key to our state’s future. The proposed Science City will act as a hub for learning, innovation, and interactive exploration,” he said.

Inspired by his recent visit to the Science City in Ahmedabad, Minister Patra stated that the Bhubaneswar project would adopt a similar model, tailored to the needs and potential of Odisha. “Following the suggestion of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, we have resolved to build a modern science facility that will engage students and the wider public in meaningful scientific experiences,” he added.

The Science City is expected to feature interactive galleries, innovation labs, a planetarium, and science-themed recreational zones to attract students, educators, and tourists alike. It will also host exhibitions, workshops, and technology showcases to cultivate scientific temper and inspire young minds.

Minister Patra also highlighted that several Odia officers currently posted in Ahmedabad have pledged to support the project by sharing expertise and helping in planning and implementation.

Alongside this flagship initiative, the government is set to roll out a statewide plan to build science parks, centers, or planetariums in every district of Odisha. “Each district will receive at least one dedicated science infrastructure project to decentralize access to science learning and encourage early interest among schoolchildren,” Patra announced.
