Odisha to Establish Cyber Police Stations in All Districts

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today emphasized the need for Odisha Police to adopt modern technology and enhance their capabilities to effectively tackle emerging criminal activities during the valedictory ceremony of the 69th Duty Meet in Cuttack.

In his address, Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the importance of staying ahead of criminals through technological advancements and capacity building.

“Criminals are increasingly using new methods to exploit the system. Our police force must embrace modern tools and strategies to stay one step ahead,” said Chief Minister Majhi.

The Chief Minister stressed the state government’s commitment to modernizing the police force to meet these challenges. He outlined several initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement across Odisha.

“The state government is focused on enhancing the capabilities of Odisha Police. We are working to fill 10,000 vacant posts in the Home Department to strengthen the force,” he stated.

To support this, Majhi announced several steps, including the provision of high-performance vehicles and two-wheelers to police stations. “9,000 two-wheelers will be provided to police stations across the state, ensuring each station receives at least six vehicles. Additionally, Rs 35 crore has been sanctioned for this initiative. We are also planning to recruit 5,000 home guards to further bolster the force,” he said.

Chief Minister Majhi also addressed the growing concern of cybercrimes, noting its significant impact on law enforcement. “Cybercrimes are rising at an alarming rate, posing new challenges for our police personnel. The state government is committed to enhancing the cyber cell of Odisha Police to address these issues effectively,” he said.

As part of this effort, cyber police stations will be established in every district, and a dedicated cybercrime branch will be set up. The branch will operate with a senior officer leading investigations into cyber fraud and other digital crimes, with its headquarters located in Bhubaneswar, revealed Majhi.
