Bhubaneswar: Marking a new chapter in Odisha’s industrial and technological growth, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today performed the Bhoomi Pujan and groundbreaking ceremony for SiCSem Private Limited’s Compound Semiconductor Facility at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar. The facility, with an investment of ₹2,067 crore, represents a major milestone in the state’s mission to emerge as a national hub for advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.
Once operational, the facility will produce critical semiconductor components used in electric vehicles, defence systems, railways, and renewable energy, sectors central to India’s economic transformation. It is expected to create around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, boosting Odisha’s innovation-driven industrial ecosystem.
In a post on X, Chief Minister Majhi expressed pride over the milestone, calling it “a proud moment for Odisha” and a reflection of the state’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said the project underscores Odisha’s progressive policies, world-class infrastructure, and strong innovation ecosystem, which together are positioning the state as one of India’s most investment-friendly destinations.
The compound semiconductor fabrication unit, approved by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), will have an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and a packaging capacity of 96 million units. To further boost research and technological advancement, a ₹64 crore Research & Innovation Centre will also be set up at IIT Bhubaneswar, focusing on Silicon Carbide technology—a key material in next-generation semiconductor devices.
Reaffirming his government’s long-term vision, CM Majhi said Odisha is determined to build a self-reliant, technology-driven economy powered by progressive policies, skilled manpower, and academic collaboration. “With the support of the Government of India and our industry partners, Odisha will continue to lead India’s eastern growth story—driving innovation, employment, and prosperity for a Samruddha Odisha and a Viksit Bharat,” his statement read.
