Odisha Tableau Showcases Atmanirbhar Vision at Republic Day Parade

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and development journey took centre stage at Kartavya Path on Sunday as the State’s tableau was showcased during the 77th Republic Day parade, saluting the President of India. Presented on the theme “Samruddhi Ka Mantra, Atmanirbhar Bharat,” the tableau highlighted Odisha’s growing contribution to a self-reliant India through indigenous production, sustainable development and technological advancement.

The tableau offered a visual narrative of Odisha’s holistic growth, blending agricultural prosperity and cultural legacy with modern industry, innovation, skill development and advanced technology. It depicted the State’s effective utilisation of natural resources, human capital and technological capabilities, underscoring its expanding role in India’s social and economic progress. The journey from Koraput coffee, symbolising agricultural excellence, to silicon semiconductors, representing high-tech manufacturing, reflected Odisha’s continuous transformation.

The front portion of the tableau featured the lower part of Lord Jagannath’s chariot, symbolising the State’s deep spiritual and cultural roots. The upper section carried rotating replicas portraying women’s empowerment, with a traditional Pattachitra-style female figure holding symbols of folk culture and knowledge alongside a modern depiction of women’s leadership across sectors such as industry, entrepreneurship and technology.

At the centre of the tableau, Koraput coffee highlighted sustainable livelihoods and agricultural success, while a silicon semiconductor chip showcased Odisha’s strides in advanced electronics manufacturing. The Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, aimed at achieving self-reliance in milk production, was represented through a Dokra-crafted bull. An idol of Lord Ganesha reflected Odisha’s excellence in stone carving, while a replica of the Konark Sun Temple at the rear symbolised the State’s timeless architectural and artistic heritage.

Adding to its vibrancy, live demonstrations by artisans on the tableau deck showcased traditional crafts such as stone carving, Sabai grass handicrafts and Pipili applique work. The tableau was richly adorned with Sambalpuri textiles, Pattachitra art, tribal paintings, silver filigree work and Manabasa Gurubar folk paintings, offering a glimpse into Odisha’s diverse cultural identity.

Cultural performances of the Odia folk Chaiti Ghoda dance, a tradition dating back to the 16th century, further enlivened the presentation and reinforced Odisha’s contribution to strengthening a self-reliant India through cultural continuity and community participation.

Notably, Odisha’s tableau had won first place nationally in 2024 for its theme on women’s empowerment through handicrafts and handloom. The State’s 2025 tableau, focusing on handloom and weaving traditions, was also selected for the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ programme during Bharat Parv, held from January 26 to 31 near the Red Fort, reaffirming Odisha’s strong presence on the national cultural stage.
