Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of Odisha issued a warning on Sunday to the District Collectors regarding a potential low-pressure area forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal, as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar.
According to the advisory, the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin released at 1:30 PM today indicated that a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. This system is projected to move northeastwards initially and intensify into a depression over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal by May 24, 2024.
The advisory further stated that “light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Odisha.” The SRC emphasized the need for close monitoring of the situation and urged the district administrations to remain alert and prepared for any potential impacts.
In preparation for any eventualities, the SRC has instructed the district administrations to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to respond effectively to the developing weather situation.
