Bhubaneswar: Taking stock of grassroots sports development, Odisha Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Monday conducted a detailed review of facilities and training systems at the SAI RBA Badminton Academy in Saheed Nagar, stressing the need for continuous upgradation to match global standards.
The visit involved in-depth interactions with officials from the Department of Sports and Youth Services, coaches, and the Director of Sports. Seeking direct feedback, the Minister also engaged with 95 resident trainees to understand their experience regarding coaching quality, accommodation, and dietary support.
Underscoring badminton’s importance in Odisha’s sporting roadmap, Suraj highlighted that performance at higher levels depends on a strong foundation built through quality training and athlete welfare. He called for an integrated approach that prioritises both performance and well-being of players.
During the review, the Minister emphasised key areas requiring focused attention, including structured coaching methodologies, improved residential facilities, and scientifically planned nutrition tailored to athletes’ needs. He directed officials to ensure that these elements are regularly monitored and upgraded.
He further stressed that the academy should aim to set new benchmarks rather than merely maintaining existing standards, urging stakeholders to adopt a forward-looking approach in grooming young talent.
