Odisha Signs MoU With ESIC for New Medical College at Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Odisha took a major step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure on Monday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state Labour & ESI Department and the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation for establishment of a new ESI Medical College and Hospital at Andharua in Bhubaneswar.

As part of the agreement, the state government has handed over the existing ESI Hospital at Chandrasekharpur to the ESI Corporation to facilitate immediate commencement of preliminary operations for the proposed medical college.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at Kharavel Bhawan in Bhubaneswar in the presence of senior officials from both the Odisha government and the central ESI administration. Additional Chief Secretary of the Labour and ESI Department Chitra Arumugam attended the event along with other senior officers.

Officials said the new ESI Medical College and Hospital is expected to significantly improve healthcare services and medical education facilities for insured workers and beneficiaries across the state.

Representing the Odisha Labour and ESI Department, the agreement was signed by Additional Secretary Rajesh Kumar Agarwala, Director of ESI Scheme Odisha Madhumita Nayak, Joint Director Suryanarayan Padhi and Superintendent of ESI Hospital Chandrasekharpur Amiya Kumar Samal.

On behalf of the ESI Corporation, the MoU was signed by East Zone Medical Commissioner Rachita Biswas, Regional Director of ESIC Bhubaneswar Rudradeep Dutta, State Medical Officer Ava Tirkey and Executive Engineer Sandeep Goel.

Officials said the transition and collaboration between the state government and the ESI Corporation would help enhance healthcare delivery systems, expand medical facilities and improve access to quality treatment for beneficiaries in Odisha.
