
Bhubaneswar: Schools from Odisha and Rajasthan clinched top honours in the Pipe Band Girls and Pipe Band Boys categories, respectively, at the National School Band Competition held in anticipation of Republic Day celebrations.
Droupadi Girls High School in Nishaposi, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, outshone others in the Pipe Band Girls category, securing the coveted first position. Their outstanding performance earned them a prize of Rs 21,000 and a trophy, as per an official statement. Following closely were the students of Shri Swaminarayan Kanya Vidya Mandir in Bhuj, Gujarat.
In the Pipe Band Boys category, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Suratgarh, Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, emerged victorious, showcasing their musical prowess and earning the top spot.
The winners of the National School Band Competition, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education, were announced on Monday as part of the Republic Day celebrations in 2024. The grand finale, held on January 21 and 22, 2024, at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi, witnessed the participation of talented teams from various regions.
Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education & Literacy, presented the winners with cash prizes, trophies, and certificates. The competition’s jury, comprising members from each wing of the Armed Forces, meticulously selected the outstanding performers. Additionally, Government Sardar Patel Senior Secondary School in Kalpeni, Lakshadweep, delivered a special performance, adding to the cultural richness of the event.
