Odisha Sets New Speed and Safety Measures for “Mo Bus” to Curb Reckless Driving

Bhubaneswar: In a move to enhance passenger safety and curb reckless driving, Odisha’s Urban Development Minister, Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, announced new speed and safety measures for “Mo Bus” vehicles. The city buses will now be limited to a maximum speed of 40 km per hour within city limits, with speed governors installed in each vehicle to ensure compliance. For routes outside city limits, the speed cap will be set at 50 km per hour.

Minister Mohapatra emphasized strict enforcement, warning that any violations of the speed restrictions will result in immediate action. “I have directed officials to ensure that Mo Buses remain within the 40 km per hour limit in the city, with a maximum of 50 km per hour allowed outside city boundaries,” he said.

To reinforce these safety measures, drivers will undergo mandatory alcohol testing before beginning their shifts, with random tests conducted throughout the day. “We are implementing alcohol tests for drivers before they enter the bus, along with random checks during their shifts. These measures will be enforced immediately,” Mohapatra stated.

In addition to speed governors, driver licenses will be routinely checked to further ensure compliance with road safety regulations. The minister expressed confidence that these measures will significantly enhance passenger and public safety.
