Odisha Set to Launch ‘Godabarisha Mishra Adarsha Prathamika Vidyalaya Yojana’ to Transform Primary Education

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to enhance primary education across Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the upcoming launch of the ‘Godabarisha Mishra Adarsha Prathamika Vidyalaya Yojana’ during a review meeting at the Lok Seva Bhavan on Wednesday. The ambitious scheme aims to construct 6,794 modern primary schools, one in each panchayat, creating an ideal educational environment rooted in the values of the historic Satyabadi Vana Vidyalaya.

Under the initiative, the state will build new schools featuring quality infrastructure that promotes foundational learning, holistic development, and intellectual growth. Schools will be equipped with essential facilities such as dedicated classrooms, separate toilets for boys and girls, boundary walls, green spaces, digital libraries, language labs, playgrounds, dining halls, computers, and smart boards. Emphasis will be placed on developing students’ linguistic and arithmetic skills to prepare them for higher education. Additionally, sports, physical fitness, and social and cultural education will be integrated into the curriculum.

The meeting also covered plans to restore 45 heritage schools, institutions over 100 years old or established in the pre-independence era, to preserve Odisha’s educational legacy. These heritage schools will undergo renovation, with memorials and plaques honoring contributions from distinguished alumni and past educators.

Discussions included improving the mid-day meal system and expanding the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya network to provide quality education for more students across the state.

Prominent officials attended the meeting, including School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunja Bihari Dhal, School and Mass Education Secretary Shalini Pandit, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Project Director Yamini Sarangi, and OSEPA Project Director Ananya Das.
