Odisha Sees Surge in Electric Vehicle Registrations; ₹232.45 Crore Subsidy Disbursed

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has witnessed a significant rise in the number of electric vehicles (EVs) registered in the state, a positive indicator of the growing adoption of eco-friendly transport. According to the latest subsidy disbursal data shared by Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, the state government has allocated ₹232.45 Crore under the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy 2021, benefiting a total of 1,22,578 beneficiaries.

In response to a query raised by Baramba Legislator Bijaya Kumar Dalabehera, the Transport Minister provided detailed figures on the state’s progress under the EV Policy. As of March 6, 2025, the state has registered 8,581 two-wheeler EVs, 965 three-wheelers, 854 four-wheelers, and 73 buses, marking a strong uptake in electric mobility across different vehicle categories.

The surge in electric vehicle registrations aligns with Odisha’s commitment to promoting sustainable transport solutions and reducing the carbon footprint. With a robust subsidy scheme in place, the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy has been instrumental in encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles among residents and businesses.

The ₹232.45 Crore subsidy has been a vital part of this initiative, significantly reducing the upfront cost of EVs for consumers and driving the state’s progress towards a greener future. The government aims to further increase the penetration of EVs, not only contributing to the reduction of air pollution but also promoting the adoption of clean energy solutions in the transportation sector.

Minister Jena expressed confidence that the state’s emphasis on electric mobility would continue to make Odisha a leader in promoting environmental sustainability while offering economic benefits through the green energy sector.
