Odisha Reports Over 36,000 Missing Women and 8,400 Children in Four Years

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has witnessed a concerning rise in missing persons cases, with 36,420 women and 8,403 children reported missing between 2020 and 2024, according to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

In response to a query from MLA Chakramani Kanhar in the State Assembly, CM Majhi revealed that 421 women and girls were trafficked across state borders by illegal middlemen. Law enforcement agencies have taken strict action, resulting in the arrest of 453 individuals involved in these trafficking networks.

Efforts to rescue missing individuals have led to the recovery of 1,417 women and 1,857 children. Additionally, authorities have intensified their crackdown on child labor, successfully rescuing 748 children during the same period.

The Odisha government continues to enhance its strategies to tackle human trafficking, child exploitation, and the growing number of missing persons. Strengthened surveillance, coordinated law enforcement efforts, and public awareness campaigns remain key components of the state’s response to this crisis.
