Odisha Reports First COVID-19 Death Amid Rising Cases; Active Caseload Reaches 12

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has reported its first COVID-19 death in the current phase of the pandemic, even as the number of active cases climbed to 12 with the detection of three new infections. The resurgence has raised concerns among health authorities, prompting immediate containment measures.

Public Health Director Dr. Nilakanth Mishra confirmed the emergence of the new cases but refrained from disclosing specific locations. Health teams have been deployed to trace contacts and implement containment protocols to curb any potential spread of the virus.

While the Health Department has not yet issued an official confirmation of the death, media sources report that an elderly patient with multiple comorbidities succumbed to the virus during treatment at a hospital on Saturday. The case is under review, and further details are expected soon.

Despite the rise in numbers, officials have reassured the public that the current variant in circulation appears to be mild. They have urged citizens not to panic but to remain vigilant and adhere to basic safety measures, including wearing masks in crowded places and maintaining proper hygiene.

With the active caseload once again in double digits, the State Health Department has intensified its surveillance and response mechanisms. Testing, contact tracing, and monitoring of vulnerable populations are being prioritized to prevent a larger outbreak.

Officials have appealed to people, especially the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, to take necessary precautions and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms arise.
