Odisha Records 233 Migrant Worker Deaths in Three Years, Ganjam Tops List

Bhubaneswar: In the past three years, 233 migrant workers from Odisha have tragically lost their lives while working in other states, Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia informed the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday.

Responding to a question from Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Souvic Biswal, the Minister provided district-wise data, revealing that Ganjam accounted for the highest number of fatalities with 43 deaths, followed by Balangir district, which reported 26 deaths.

The Minister also stated that 199 of the deceased workers’ bodies were repatriated to Odisha. The state government spent ₹24,16,604 on the transportation of mortal remains during this period.
