Odisha Police Intensifies Anti-Naxal Operations in Kandhamal

Bhubaneswar: In a decisive move to combat Maoist violence, Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania has outlined a comprehensive plan to strengthen anti-Naxal operations in Kandhamal district. The DGP’s strategy aims to address the recent uptick in Maoist activity as groups seek refuge in the region after being driven out of neighboring Chhattisgarh.

Upon his arrival in Kandhamal, DGP Khurania held a closed-door meeting with senior officials, including Superintendents of Police (SPs) from Rayagada, Boudh, Nuapada, and Kalahandi, as well as high-ranking officers from the BSF, CRPF, and Intelligence Bureau. This high-level gathering focused on coordinating efforts to counter Maoist groups, specifically the KKBN and BGN factions, known to be active in the area. Key IPS officers, including Amit Kumar, AN Sinha, and JN Pankaj, along with the District Collector, District Forest Officer (DFO), and Boudh Sub-Collector, were also in attendance.

The strategy meeting underscored the need for robust security reinforcements in Kandhamal and surrounding districts, as authorities aim to transform the region into a Maoist-free zone. Heightened security protocols are being put in place, including increased patrols, intelligence gathering, and joint operations by state and central forces.

“The goal is to root out Maoist presence and ensure lasting peace in Kandhamal,” DGP Khurania stated, emphasizing the Odisha Police’s resolve to eliminate Maoist influence from the district. Enhanced collaboration with central forces and intensified surveillance in strategic areas are expected to play key roles in this effort.

The crackdown comes amid reports of Maoist militants migrating to Odisha’s forests and remote regions in Kandhamal to evade intensified counter-insurgency operations in Chhattisgarh. As Odisha ramps up its security measures, the police and local administration are working closely to implement the DGP’s directives, aiming for a sustained impact on regional security.
