Odisha Police Gears Up for Cyclone ‘Dana’ with Comprehensive Safety Measures

Bhubaneswar: In anticipation of Cyclone ‘Dana,’ which is expected to make landfall between October 24 and 25 along Odisha’s coast, the state police have implemented a wide range of safety and security measures to safeguard the public.

1. Deployment of ODRAF Teams:
The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has deployed 20 teams, consisting of nearly 1,000 personnel, equipped with advanced technology, power boats, and state-of-the-art emergency tools. These teams are fully prepared to respond swiftly and effectively during the cyclone to ensure public safety.

2. Strengthening Coastal Districts:
To bolster rescue and relief operations, 80 additional platoons of police forces have been sent to coastal districts. These extra forces will support the local police and authorities, particularly in evacuation and rescue efforts in the most affected areas.

3. Enhanced Communication Systems:
All districts likely to be impacted by Cyclone Dana have been equipped with sufficient wireless communication systems. Districts have been directed to ensure these systems are fully operational. Additionally, extra VHF communication sets and accessories have been readied to guarantee seamless communication during the cyclone.

4. Patrolling and Evacuation Support:
Police patrols will be intensified, especially in evacuated areas, to prevent incidents of looting or theft. Odisha Police will play an active role in the evacuation process, prioritizing the safety of women, children, the elderly, and the sick. The police are prepared to relocate residents from high-risk zones to safer areas.

5. Maintaining Supply Lines and Alert Systems:
Efforts are underway to ensure that supply lines remain open and operational throughout the storm. Any disruptions will be addressed immediately. Alert and warning systems are also being set up, particularly in remote areas, to provide real-time updates and keep residents informed about the cyclone’s progress.

6. Comprehensive Cyclone Response Plan:
Odisha Police has designed a thorough plan to handle all phases of the cyclone—before, during, and after landfall. This plan focuses on minimizing damage, ensuring public safety, and facilitating a quick return to normalcy post-cyclone.

The Odisha Police remain fully committed to safeguarding the public throughout Cyclone Dana. With a target of zero casualties, they are prepared to offer full support and ensure the safety of all residents during this challenging period.
