Odisha Named Best State for Road Safety Initiatives at FICCI Conclave

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been honored as the best state in India for road safety initiatives at the sixth edition of FICCI’s Road Safety Conclave held in New Delhi. The award was presented by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, Joint Transport Commissioner (Road Safety), received the accolade on behalf of the state.

The recognition highlights Odisha’s exemplary efforts in reducing road accidents and setting a benchmark for other states. During the award presentation, Minister Gadkari commended Odisha’s road safety strategies, particularly its innovative ‘SuVahak’ initiative. The ‘SuVahak’ program, which features four state-funded training centers, has become a model for promoting zero-accident goals and driver training excellence, garnering praise from road safety experts nationwide.

In his address, Minister Gadkari emphasized the importance of enforcement, road engineering, and driver training in enhancing road safety. He urged all states to leverage modern technology to improve transparency and efficiency in road safety measures. The Union Minister also highlighted the need for maintaining proper road infrastructure to prevent accidents, especially among the youth.

Pradeep Kumar Mohanty elaborated on Odisha’s strategic approaches during the panel discussion, including the deployment of the Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) and the ‘SuVahak’ program. He underscored the critical role of driver training and personality development in the state’s road safety initiatives, which have also contributed to job creation through government-supported programs.

State Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur expressed pride in receiving the award, stating, “The Commerce and Transport Department, along with the State Transport Authority, is committed to reducing road accidents. This award motivates us to continue our efforts. Based on the valuable suggestions from the Hon’ble Union Minister during the conclave, we will strive to further enhance our road safety measures.”
