Odisha Launches Seventh Phase of Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government launched the seventh phase of the Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana (BNTYY) on Wednesday. A total of 775 senior citizens from six districts across Odisha embarked on a spiritual journey to Ayodhya and Varanasi, two of India’s most revered pilgrimage destinations.

The pilgrimage was launched by Deputy Chief Minister, Pravati Parida, who expressed that the scheme aims to make holy pilgrimages accessible to senior citizens, enabling them to fulfil their lifelong religious wishes. The journey commenced from Bhubaneswar, with the group of pilgrims being accompanied by 25 administrative officers to ensure a smooth and safe trip.

The scheme is a collaborative effort between the State Tourism Department and Indian Railways, ensuring that the senior citizens are provided with a comfortable travel experience.

Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister, Jaibir Singh, attended the event as the guest of honor. He highlighted the cultural exchange between Odisha and Uttar Pradesh and expressed his optimism about the role such exchanges would play in the nation’s development, especially with India aiming to become a developed nation by 2047.

Minister of Law, Excise, and Panchayati Raj, Prithviraj Harichandan, praised the initiative as an innovative opportunity that allows senior citizens to visit sacred places without financial concerns, adding that such efforts are crucial in respecting and celebrating the elderly.

In addition to the dignitaries, the event was attended by Minister for Industries and Skill Development, Sampada Chandra Swain, and Mahakalapada MLA, Durga Prasanna Nayak, who all shared their support for the meaningful initiative.

The Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme is part of the Odisha government’s continuous efforts to provide opportunities for senior citizens to visit holy places, creating an enriching experience for them while promoting cultural tourism across India.
