Bhubaneswar: Expanding the scope of digital public services beyond transportation, the Odisha government on Sunday introduced an advanced Safety Module on the Odisha Yatri platform, integrating emergency response capabilities with everyday mobility services to strengthen citizen safety across the state.
The upgraded platform, already used for services such as auto-rickshaw booking, cab services, Ama Bus information and ticketing, and boating facilities, will now offer real-time safety support through direct integration with Odisha Police and the national emergency helpline number 112.
With this addition, Odisha Yatri is positioned as India’s first state-owned integrated platform that combines mobility and public safety services under a single digital ecosystem.
Launching the initiative, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Women & Child Development, Mission Shakti and Tourism, Pravati Parida said the government is committed to creating accessible and dependable public service platforms that ensure citizens receive immediate assistance whenever needed. She said technology continues to play an important role in making governance more responsive and inclusive.
The newly launched Safety Module includes a One-Tap SOS feature that allows users to instantly trigger emergency alerts while sharing their live location with police authorities and trusted contacts. To make emergency access easier in stressful situations, the application also supports gesture-based activation, allowing users to seek help by shaking an Android device or using the back-tap function on iPhones.
Additional safety features include real-time location tracking for family members, Emergency Siren support and Ambient Audio Recording to enhance situational awareness during emergencies. The application has been made available in both Odia and English to improve accessibility across user groups.
Officials said the move marks a significant shift in the evolution of Odisha Yatri from a mobility-focused application into a broader citizen services platform designed around convenience, safety and digital inclusion.
The government has also outlined plans to expand the platform further by introducing services such as intercity bus integration, digital ticketing for major tourism destinations and additional citizen-focused public utilities.
Through the integration of mobility and emergency response services, the initiative aims to improve public safety, strengthen digital governance and enhance the overall quality of urban service delivery in Odisha.
