Odisha IPR Department Holds Orientation Programme on Emerging Social Media Trends

Bhubaneswar: The Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department organised a one-day orientation programme on “Emerging Trends in Social Media” for Odisha Information Service (OIS) officers in Bhubaneswar, focusing on strengthening digital communication skills and improving the dissemination of government information.

The programme, held at the Lok Seva Bhawan Conference Centre, aimed to familiarise officers with evolving social media trends, enhance their professional capabilities and promote effective public communication in the changing digital landscape.

During the first technical session, Akhil Kumar Mishra, Additional Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Odisha Region, provided technical guidance to participating officers on emerging trends in social media, changing patterns of digital communication and strategies for disseminating government information effectively.

Mishra emphasised the importance of clear communication, thoughtful expression and a strong sense of responsibility while engaging with the public through digital platforms. He also highlighted the need for information officers to develop effective communication skills to ensure that details of government schemes, programmes and public services reach citizens accurately and efficiently.

Information officers posted at different levels across Odisha play a key role in connecting the government with the public. With social media increasingly shaping public communication, strengthening their technical expertise has become important to keeping pace with emerging digital trends.

The orientation programme sought to promote citizen-centric communication and encourage two-way engagement between the government and the public, enabling information officers to respond more effectively to the evolving communication needs of citizens.
