Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has identified 3,738 Bangladeshi nationals residing across the state, with deportation proceedings under consideration, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the State Assembly on Monday.
Responding to a query from BJP MLA Manas Kumar Dutta, who sought details on the government’s measures to detect and deport illegal immigrants, CM Majhi revealed that the highest concentration of Bangladeshi nationals has been found in four districts: Kendrapara (1,649), Jagatsinghpur (1,112), Malkangiri (655), and Nabarangapur (106).
The Chief Minister also disclosed that 41 Bangladeshi nationals have been involved in various criminal cases in Odisha over the past decade. He assured the Assembly that the state administration is actively monitoring the situation, with district Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) directed to identify and verify infiltrators in their respective areas.
