
Bhubaneswar: In a significant advancement for healthcare services in the state, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MGM Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Chennai, to facilitate heart transplantation at SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Cuttack. The MoU was signed in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling at the department’s conference hall.
Minister Mahaling expressed the government’s commitment to providing the best healthcare services to the people of Odisha, particularly emphasizing the benefits this initiative will bring to economically weaker sections of society. “This MoU is a shining example of our dedication. Heart transplantation will commence at SCB MCH in the coming months,” he stated.
As part of the agreement, MGM Healthcare has provided hands-on training to two teams from Odisha’s medical colleges at no cost. With existing infrastructure at SCB MCH, MGM Chennai has committed to conducting the first ten heart transplants free of charge.
The initiative will encompass comprehensive support, including hands-on training for local medical staff, guidance for functionalization, patient screening, and postoperative follow-ups at SCB MCH. Following these initial procedures, the local team of doctors at SCB MCH will continue performing heart transplants independently.
The MoU was signed by DMET Director Dr. Santosh Kumar Mishra and MGM Healthcare’s Co-director Dr. Suresh Rao, with key attendees including Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Commissioner cum Secretary Aswathy S, Dr. Manoj Kumar Pattnaik, Professor & HOD, CTVS, SCB MCH, Dr. Sura Kishore Mishra, Professor & HOD, Cardiology, SCB MCH, and other senior officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department.
This collaboration marks a promising step towards improving cardiac care in Odisha, ensuring that patients no longer need to travel out of state for critical heart surgeries.
