Odisha Govt Plans New Ring Roads and Flyover to Address Bhubaneswar Traffic Woes

Bhubaneswar: To address the growing traffic congestion in the state capital, the Odisha government has unveiled plans to construct a flyover, a new ring road, and multiple Railway Overbridges (ROBs). These projects aim to ease the burden of increasing vehicular traffic as Bhubaneswar’s population continues to rise.

The Public Works Department presented these proposals to Chief Minister Mohan Majhi at a meeting held at Lok Seva Bhavan on Tuesday. The proposed infrastructure developments include several key roads and bridges designed to improve connectivity and traffic flow across the city.

The projects outlined in the presentation include a new road from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, a ring road stretching from Patia railway station to NH-16 along the Daya West Canal, and the upgrading of the Sundarpada-Jatni road. Additionally, a new road from the Institute of Mathematics on Patapalli-Trishulia Road to Ekamra Kanan will be constructed. The proposal also includes the construction of a flyover at the Kalpana Square-Museum-Ravi Talkies junction, an ROB connecting Sishu Bhawan Chhak and Mausi Maa Chhak, and another ROB on the Tamando-Chandaka-Baran-Dhauli-Tamando ring road.

The Housing and Urban Development Department also made a detailed presentation on the development of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri Economic Region and the vision for forming a Greater Bhubaneswar.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers K.V. Singhdeo and Pravatii Parida, along with key ministers and senior officials including Minister for Works Prithviraj Harichandan, Minister for Housing and Urban Development Krishnachandra Mohapatra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, and Principal Secretaries from both the Works and Housing and Urban Development Departments.
