Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is set to introduce a new film policy and establish a dedicated Film Training Institute as part of efforts to revive and modernise the Odia film industry, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Friday.
The Chief Minister made the announcement during an interaction with actors, filmmakers and technicians at Sanskruti Bhawan, where discussions were held on the future roadmap of Odia cinema.
Stating that cinema reflects the culture, identity and emotions of society, Majhi said Odisha has immense storytelling potential rooted in Jagannath culture, tribal traditions, maritime history, village life and the state’s experiences during natural disasters.
He stressed that Odia cinema should focus on developing its own unique identity instead of following trends from other film industries.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to set up a Film Training Institute in Odisha to develop skilled professionals in acting, direction, production and other technical fields associated with filmmaking.
He said the state government is committed to strengthening film infrastructure and assured the industry of long-term support for its growth and expansion.
Odisha’s Language, Literature and Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said the Odia film industry would play an important role during Odisha’s centenary celebrations in 2036.
