Odisha Govt Launches Probe into Nepali Student’s Alleged Suicide at KIIT University

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has set up a high-level fact-finding committee to investigate the alleged suicide of a Nepali student at KIIT University. The decision comes after growing concerns about student safety and allegations of misconduct involving private individuals on campus.

The committee includes top officials such as the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department; Principal Secretary, Women & Child Development Department; and Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Higher Education Department. The government has assured a thorough inquiry and strict action against those found responsible.

In an official statement, the government confirmed that it had taken immediate steps, including the arrest of security guards and the suspension of officials allegedly involved in the incident. Authorities are also investigating reports of misconduct and use of force against students by private individuals, ensuring legal action against any wrongdoing.

Reaffirming its commitment to student safety, the government stated that those responsible would be held accountable as per the law, and further measures would be taken to safeguard the dignity and well-being of students.

The case involves Prakriti, a B.Tech student at KIIT University, who allegedly died by suicide on Sunday. Reports suggest that the incident followed a dispute with her estranged boyfriend, Advik Shrivastava, a B.Tech (Mechanical) student.

The tragic event has sparked widespread discussions on mental health support, campus security, and student protection policies. With the fact-finding committee now in place, authorities are expected to take decisive steps to strengthen safety measures and prevent such incidents in the future.
