Odisha Govt Introduces New Colour Code for School Buildings

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has introduced a new colour code for all government and PM-SHRI schools in the state. The walls of the school buildings will be painted in shades of orange frost, with orange tan borders.

The new colour code will be applied to all school buildings during construction, repairs, and renovations, replacing all previous instructions on the matter. The School and Mass Education Department has directed the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) to issue clear instructions to district authorities and field functionaries for a uniform implementation of the new code across Odisha.

The directive from the department states: “It is requested to issue suitable instructions to concerned field functionaries for adoption of the approved colour code in all Govt Schools, including PM SHRI schools, during construction, repair & renovation works. This order supersedes all previous instructions related to the colour code of school buildings.”

This move follows four months after the Mohan Majhi government altered the colour and design of uniforms for Class IX and X students in public and aided schools. The previous green colour associated with the former BJD regime was replaced with a combination of light brown and maroon. Additionally, the ruling BJP government has also changed the colour of several state-owned items, including government buildings, LAccMI buses, road signs, wall posters, and even milk packets, shifting from green to saffron hues.
