Bhubaneswar: As Odisha grapples with scorching temperatures and intense heat wave conditions, the state government has taken proactive measures to ensure the well-being of its citizens. In a recent development, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued directives to the Sports Department, imposing restrictions on outdoor sports activities during the hot summer months.
The SRC’s office, through the Additional SRC, conveyed a letter to the Director of Sports and Youth Services, urging strict enforcement of the restrictions on outdoor sports activities in light of the prevailing weather conditions. Expressing concern over reports of outdoor games such as cricket, football, and hockey being played during the peak hours of heat, the SRC emphasized the need for precautionary measures to safeguard the health and safety of individuals.
The directive stipulates that all outdoor sports activities, including cricket, football, and hockey, should be restricted between 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, the hottest hours of the day, to mitigate the risk of heat-related illnesses and heat strokes. The SRC underscored the importance of adhering to these restrictions to prevent any adverse health impacts on participants.
“Considering the prevailing weather conditions, it is imperative to take precautionary measures and limit outdoor game activities during the hot summer period. Strict enforcement of the restrictions on all outdoor sports activities mentioned above is necessary,” the letter emphasized.
