Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced the extension of the Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana, a health insurance scheme for journalists, for another year. Originally set to expire on August 31, the scheme will now continue, offering health coverage to media personnel across the state for an additional year.
The Department of Information and Public Relations has confirmed that the current list of beneficiaries will remain valid, eliminating the need for re-application. Journalists who have transitioned to new media organizations must submit a letter from their current editors to update their affiliations. Similarly, those who have left the media industry are required to report this change via a letter.
Additionally, the names of deceased media personnel will be removed from the scheme’s list. The District Public Relations Officers (DPROs) across the state have been notified to reach out to the journalists and ensure the smooth continuation of the scheme.
